Fact-checking webinar – Immigration: is the EU truly being “flooded”?
The Académie Notre Europe and the Alumni Association of the Académie Notre Europe are continuing their joint “Fact-checking” webinar series, dedicated to unpacking major European issues. This second webinar will focus on immigration in the European Union.
Open to everyone. Join us at 7:00 PM on Wednesday the 18th of February!

Today, migration is one of Europe’s major challenges: forced displacement following armed conflicts or climate disasters, and a profound demographic crisis…
Over the past ten years, several migration-related events have shaped Europe: the war in Syria, flows linked to instability in West Africa, shipwrecks in the Mediterranean, and more recently the war in Ukraine. As a result, public debate on these issues has intensified, along with political responses at both national and European levels.
Yet today, the famous Wir schaffen das feels far away. Fears of cultural loss, questions of social cohesion and integration, concerns about states’ reception capacities: between widespread misconceptions and instrumentalisation by far-right parties, what are the facts?
This webinar aims to debunk the misinformation that fuels debates around migration in the European Union:
What are the actual figures? Can we really speak of a “flood” of migrants?
What are the real challenges of migration policies: reception, integration, regulation?
What options are currently being considered at the European level, and are there divergences between Member States and institutions?
We therefore invite you to join us on 18 February from 7:00 PM for a webinar with Monique Pariat, former Director-General of Migration and Home Affairs (DG HOME) and Adviser at the Jacques Delors Institute.
